Xpeng has introduced the G9L, a new flagship electric SUV designed to combine long-distance capability with premium comfort, advanced driver-assistance technology and flexible seating for larger families. Unveiled at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, the five-metre-plus model features an 800V electrical architecture, rapid charging and the option of dual-motor all-wheel drive.
The launch comes as Chinese car brands continue to expand their presence in the UK, increasing competition across the electric vehicle market.
The launch adds another model to the growing choice of electric vehicles entering the European market. For a wider overview of the sector, read our guide to the UK electric vehicle market.
Although the G9L is intended to appeal to both family and executive buyers, UK pricing, final specifications and the arrival date have yet to be confirmed.

Xpeng G9L: Range, Performance And Charging
At 5,120mm long, the G9L sits in the large luxury SUV category. Buyers will be able to choose between rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive, with performance and equipment varying by version.
The G9L Long Range Ultra offers a claimed WLTP range of up to 367 miles, making it a potential option for drivers covering longer distances. Its 800V silicon-carbide electrical system is designed to reduce charging stops, with Xpeng quoting a 10–80% battery recharge time of approximately 12 minutes under suitable conditions.
For those prioritising performance, the dual-motor all-wheel-drive version develops 584PS and 695Nm of torque. Xpeng claims a 0–62mph acceleration time of 4.9 seconds, giving the large SUV substantial performance alongside its emphasis on comfort and practicality.
Actual range and charging times will depend on factors including driving conditions, temperature, battery state of charge and the charging equipment available. Businesses considering electric vehicles can read our guide to how EV charging works for businesses.

Six- Or Seven-Seat Flexibility
The G9L has a 3,100mm wheelbase and will be offered with six- or seven-seat interior configurations. This gives buyers the choice between a more spacious six-seat arrangement and additional passenger capacity.
With all six seats in use, the luggage compartment provides 367 litres of storage. A further 65-litre compartment at the front offers space for smaller items, helping make use of the vehicle’s electric platform.
The cabin is equipped with premium materials and comfort features, including Nappa leather upholstery and heated, ventilated and massaging seats for occupants in the first two rows. A 21.4-inch rear entertainment screen is designed to make longer journeys more comfortable for passengers.
Other equipment includes a 23-speaker audio system, a 12.5-litre dual-zone refrigerator and electrically operated sunshades. These features position the G9L as a technology-focused alternative to established luxury SUVs, with an emphasis on passenger comfort as well as everyday usability.

Digital Technology And Intelligent Seating
Technology is central to the G9L’s cabin design. The dashboard incorporates a 17.3-inch central touchscreen alongside an 8.8-inch digital instrument display, while an augmented-reality head-up display provides additional driving information within the driver’s field of vision.
Google Maps-powered navigation, voice recognition across six cabin zones and over-the-air software updates are also included in the technology package.
Xpeng has also introduced its AI-Driven Active Adaptive Seating technology. The system is designed to adjust the front seats to occupants’ body shapes, while the front passenger seat can be configured in a zero-gravity position intended to improve comfort during longer journeys.
Together, these features reflect the manufacturer’s approach to combining digital functionality with a more lounge-like cabin environment.

New AI Driver Assistance Planned For Europe
The G9L Ultra is set to introduce Xpeng’s Next Generation Pilot (NGP) driver-assistance system, which uses the company’s second-generation Vision-Language-Action (VLA 2.0) artificial intelligence model.
Xpeng is developing the technology with European driving conditions in mind, including local traffic rules, road signs and the need to account for pedestrians and cyclists. Planned capabilities include assistance with manoeuvring along narrow streets, three-dimensional representations of nearby obstacles and remote parking functions.
The manufacturer intends to roll out NGP through staged over-the-air software updates from 2027, subject to regulatory approval and the laws governing its use in individual markets.
Xpeng has also outlined a longer-term ambition to progress from Level 2 driver assistance towards Level 4 autonomous driving without first introducing an intermediate Level 3 stage. This remains a development objective and should not be interpreted as confirmation that the G9L will launch with Level 4 self-driving capability.
For more on the potential implications of this technology for business vehicles, see our article on autonomous vehicles and the future of UK fleet leasing.
The distinction is important: advanced driver assistance does not remove the driver’s responsibility to remain attentive and in control where required.

Air Suspension And Off-Road Capability
Despite its luxury positioning, the G9L has been designed to handle more than urban driving and motorway journeys.
Its chassis combines an all-aluminium suspension architecture with double-wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear arrangement. Dual-chamber air suspension allows the ride height to be adjusted by up to 70mm, while active rear-wheel steering is designed to improve manoeuvrability.
Xpeng quotes a turning radius of 5.5 metres, a maximum ground clearance of 216mm and a wading depth of up to 700mm. These figures suggest that the SUV has been engineered to accommodate uneven surfaces and more demanding conditions, although its suitability for any particular route will depend on the specification and driving environment.
A retractable tow hitch rated for loads of up to two tonnes adds further versatility. The G9L also supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, with an output of up to 6kW for powering compatible external equipment.

Safety And Development Testing
The G9L’s safety equipment includes up to ten airbags, automatic emergency braking, tyre-blowout stability control and Driver Incapacitation Assist.
Xpeng says its development programme has included 192 crash tests across more than 110 testing protocols, alongside over 6.74 million kilometres of testing in 26 countries and regions.
These figures demonstrate the scale of the manufacturer’s stated testing programme, although independent safety ratings and the final equipment specification for the UK market have yet to be confirmed.

European Production Plans
The G9L has completed its first production trial at Magna’s manufacturing facility in Graz, Austria. Xpeng expects the SUV to become the fourth model from the brand to be manufactured in Europe.
European production forms part of the manufacturer’s wider plans to strengthen its position in the region. However, further details about UK availability, production volumes and market-specific specifications remain outstanding.
