Land Rover is preparing to unveil the all-new Range Rover Sport Electric, with the premium electric SUV expected to make its official debut in September alongside the long-awaited Range Rover Electric.
The launch marks one of the most significant milestones in JLR’s electrification journey, as the manufacturer continues its transition towards an all-electric future while maintaining the luxury, performance and off-road capability for which the Range Rover brand is renowned.
With demand for premium electric SUVs continuing to grow, the Range Rover Sport Electric will offer customers a zero-emission alternative without compromising the design, refinement and driving experience that have made the Sport one of Land Rover’s most popular models.
A Major Step in JLR’s Electrification Strategy
The introduction of the Range Rover Sport Electric forms part of JLR’s wider transformation programme, which will see every one of its luxury brands embrace electrification over the coming years.
The new Range Rover Electric and Range Rover Sport Electric are the first fully electric models to carry the iconic Range Rover nameplate. They will eventually be joined by additional electric Land Rover models, while Jaguar is preparing to launch the first vehicle from its new generation of electric luxury cars in 2027.
Although the Range Rover Electric was originally expected to arrive sooner after reservations opened in 2023, JLR has taken additional time to refine the vehicle before its official launch.

Shared Platform and Electric Powertrain
Both electric Range Rover models are built on the same platform and utilise JLR’s latest in-house developed electric drivetrain technology.
Power is expected to come from a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing approximately 550PS, delivering the strong performance expected from a flagship Range Rover.
Energy is supplied by a substantial 118kWh battery pack, with an estimated driving range of around 300 miles between charges. While official WLTP figures are still to be confirmed, the battery capacity suggests the new models are designed to balance long-distance touring with everyday usability.
The large battery should also support rapid DC charging, helping drivers minimise charging times during longer journeys, although full charging specifications have yet to be announced.
Designed to Look Like a Range Rover First
Unlike some manufacturers that radically redesign their electric vehicles, Land Rover has taken a more restrained approach with the Range Rover Sport Electric.
At first glance, it is almost indistinguishable from the existing petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid versions. The overall silhouette, proportions and premium appearance remain unchanged, with only subtle styling revisions identifying it as an electric model.
These updates include a redesigned front grille, aerodynamic detailing and a revised rear bumper, all aimed at improving efficiency while preserving the distinctive Range Rover identity.
For many buyers, this familiar styling will be a major attraction, allowing them to switch to electric power without sacrificing the timeless design that has become synonymous with the brand.
Performance Meets Everyday Practicality
While official performance figures are still under wraps, the expected 550PS output suggests the Range Rover Sport Electric will deliver effortless acceleration and refined motorway cruising.
Instant electric torque should also enhance low-speed off-road capability, giving the vehicle excellent traction across difficult terrain while maintaining the smooth, quiet driving characteristics that electric powertrains naturally provide.
As with existing Range Rover models, buyers can also expect a luxurious cabin featuring premium materials, advanced infotainment technology and the latest driver assistance systems.
Competition in the Premium Electric SUV Market
The luxury electric SUV segment is becoming increasingly competitive, and the Range Rover Sport Electric will enter a market with several high-profile rivals.
Among its closest competitors are the forthcoming BMW iX5 and the Porsche Cayenne Electric, both of which are expected to target buyers looking for premium performance combined with everyday practicality.
Other established rivals include the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, Lotus Eletre and Audi Q8 e-tron, meaning customers will have more choice than ever when selecting a luxury electric SUV.
Expected Pricing and Availability
JLR is expected to reveal full specifications, equipment levels and pricing during the vehicle’s official unveiling in September.
Industry expectations suggest the Range Rover Sport Electric will carry a starting price of around £100,000, positioning it firmly within the luxury SUV market.
Given the popularity of the existing Range Rover Sport and growing demand for premium electric vehicles, interest is expected to be high when order books officially open.
What It Means for Business Leasing
Although the Range Rover Sport Electric is primarily aimed at the luxury market, it may also appeal to company car drivers and business owners seeking a premium zero-emission vehicle.
As a fully electric model, it will benefit from the UK’s favourable company car tax rates for electric vehicles, making it considerably more tax-efficient than an equivalent petrol or diesel luxury SUV. Businesses looking to reduce fleet emissions while maintaining a premium image may therefore find it an attractive addition to their vehicle policy.
Further details on leasing availability and business contract hire options are expected once pricing is confirmed later this year.
