BYD is expanding its electric vehicle range with the new Atto 8, a seven-seat SUV scheduled to arrive in the UK in the first quarter of 2027. Positioned as the brand’s flagship electric car, the model combines a claimed range of up to 405 miles with new ultra-fast charging technology and a spacious interior designed for family and business use.
The Atto 8 will be available with rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive powertrains, giving buyers a choice between maximising range and prioritising performance. UK pricing and full specifications have yet to be announced.

BYD Atto 8 Introduces New Battery And Charging Technology
The Atto 8 will be the first BYD model in Europe to feature the manufacturer’s second-generation Blade Battery alongside its Flash Charging technology. The large 115kWh battery is designed to deliver impressive range while significantly reducing charging times when used with compatible high-powered charging infrastructure. The technology builds on BYD’s wider efforts to accelerate electric vehicle charging, with its five-minute EV charging technology designed to make charging stops significantly quicker for drivers.
BYD claims the battery can charge from 10% to 70% in just five minutes under specified conditions. Charging from 10% to 97% is said to take nine minutes, while a 20% to 97% charge is possible in 12 minutes at temperatures as low as -30°C.
These figures are dependent on suitable charging equipment and operating conditions. BYD plans to install 3,000 Flash Charging stations across Europe by the end of 2027, with the availability of this infrastructure likely to influence how easily drivers can benefit from the advertised charging speeds. Two Powertrains Offer A Choice Of Range And Performance
The Atto 8 Design RWD features a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 462PS and 365Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0-62mph in eight seconds and offers a claimed WLTP combined range of up to 405 miles, making it the longer-range option in the line-up.
For drivers seeking greater performance, the Excellence AWD adds a second electric motor to the front axle. Combined output rises to 775PS and 775Nm of torque, reducing the 0-62mph acceleration time to 4.6 seconds. However, the additional power comes with a reduction in claimed range to 374 miles.
Both versions place the Atto 8 in the large electric SUV category, with a combination of long-distance capability, rapid charging potential and seating for seven.

Spacious Seven-Seat Interior With Modern Technology
Measuring 5,040mm long, 1,996mm wide and 1,760mm tall, the Atto 8 is designed to accommodate seven occupants while retaining useful luggage capacity.
The dashboard incorporates a 10.25-inch digital instrument display, a 26-inch head-up display and a 15.6-inch central touchscreen. Google services are integrated into the infotainment system, including Google Maps, Google Assistant and access to the Google Play Store.
Comfort features include heated, ventilated and massage-function seats for the front occupants and the outer seats in the second row. Other equipment includes tri-zone climate control and a panoramic glass roof. Buyers opting for the Excellence AWD will also have access to a 21-speaker DiSound audio system.
Luggage capacity is 270 litres with all three seating rows in use, increasing to 1,960 litres when the second and third rows are folded. A further 136 litres of storage is available in the front compartment.

What The BYD Atto 8 Could Mean For Electric SUV Buyers
The Atto 8 brings together several features that are becoming increasingly important in the electric vehicle market: long claimed driving range, reduced charging times, substantial interior space and high levels of technology.
Its seven-seat configuration could make it an option for larger families and businesses looking for an electric vehicle with additional passenger capacity. The two powertrain choices also provide flexibility for buyers who place different priorities on range and acceleration. The Atto 8 will also sit alongside other larger models in BYD’s expanding range, including the BYD Ti7 seven-seat plug-in hybrid SUV. Its plug-in hybrid powertrain offers a different approach to electrified driving for buyers who are not yet ready to choose a fully electric vehicle. For buyers who prefer a smaller SUV with plug-in hybrid technology, CVC also lists the BYD Atto 2 1.5 PHEV DM-i Active Auto, offering the flexibility of electric driving for shorter journeys alongside a petrol engine for longer trips.
For drivers considering an electric SUV before the Atto 8 arrives, CVC also offers the BYD Sealion 7 Excellence AWD electric SUV, which combines an all-electric powertrain with a five-seat interior and a 91kWh battery.
Another option to consider is the BYD Atto 3 Evo Design 75kWh electric SUV, giving buyers another fully electric BYD model to explore while waiting for UK pricing and specifications for the Atto 8.
The launch also reflects the wider expansion of Chinese manufacturers in the UK, with Chinese car brands continuing to grow their UK market share as more electric and electrified models reach buyers.
However, the UK launch is still some way off, and pricing, final UK specifications and the availability of the Flash Charging network will be important factors in assessing its competitiveness against other large electric SUVs.
With its combination of range, performance and passenger space, the BYD Atto 8 is set to become an important addition to the brand’s expanding electric vehicle line-up when it arrives in 2027.
For drivers considering other fully electric models from the brand, CVC also offers the BYD Seal Excellence AWD. Unlike the Atto 8’s seven-seat SUV layout, the Seal is an electric saloon, offering an alternative for buyers who prioritise a lower-slung body style and all-wheel-drive performance.
