Ford e Transit gets bigger battery and longer driving range

Ford e Transit stands out from the competition with its exceptional combination of spacious cargo capacity and an impressive driving range. The vehicle offers businesses the perfect balance of utility and efficiency, making it a top contender among large electric vans.

And now, Ford has announced a new exciting addition to the electric Transit van line-up. The new e Transit features a larger battery to provide an even longer range, setting new standards in electric vehicle performance.

Ford e-Transit long range: 28% more driving and faster charging

The e-Transit’s appeal is further boosted by the introduction of a larger 89kWh battery. A key enhancement is the van’s WLTP range of 249 miles on a full charge, marking a 28% improvement from the previous model. Moreover, the extended range model comes with a heat pump as a standard feature.

Ford has also upgraded the electric Transit van’s charging capability. The long-range Transit EV supports AC charging at 22kW, aiming for a full charge time of under six hours. Rapid DC charging has been elevated from 115kW to 180kW, enabling a 10-80% charge in just 28 minutes. Moreover, a quick 10-minute charge can add up to 72 miles of range. Furthermore, the van is equipped with the 2.3kW Pro Power on-board system, allowing users to power tools and accessories directly from the van’s drive battery. And, the built-in three-pin plug socket enhances user convenience even further.

But that’s not all. Ford also introduced new service intervals of two years for the new Transit EV, regardless of the distance you cover.

“The extended range option for E-Transit is another example of the Ford Pro commitment to making high-productivity electric fleets a reality across Europe. Giving customers the option to drive further between charges alongside a wide choice of body styles and support from Ford Pro’s connected ecosystem strengthens our position as their trusted partner for complete fleet solutions.”

Ford eTransit & Alexa

Similar to the other models in the Transit lineup, the new E-Transit comes equipped with connectivity to the Ford Pro network. It includes a built-in 5G modem and the Ford Pro app, enabling users to remotely monitor their vehicle, schedule servicing, and reduce downtime. The new models also offers over-the-air software updates and Alexa integration into its voice control system.

Body variants

Customers can choose from 19 electric Ford Transit model variants. Moreover, each variant offers different lengths and configurations. There are panel vans, double-cab-in-vans, and chassis cab options for specialist conversions such as Luton vans, dropsides, tippers, and curtain sider vans.

In terms of weights, the gross vehicle mass (GVM) of the new Transit electric varies from 3,500kg to 4,250kg. Furthermore, the maximum payload reaches up to 1,460kg for panel vans and 1,814kg for chassis cabs. The maximum towing capacity is rated at 3,500kg for the long range Transit e.

Ford Transit extended range electric minibus

In addition to panel vans and chassis cabs, Ford has also introduced a factory-built electric Transit minibus. However, this model will only be available through direct factory orders. Furthermore, the choice of standard or long-range batteries depends on the seating configuration you prefer. While both battery options are available for the Ford e Transit nine seater, the electric 12 seater Transit only offers the standard battery.
