Mercedes-Benz has provided another glimpse of its next-generation Sprinter, revealing more about the design and technology that will underpin its new large van ahead of its planned UK and European arrival in 2027.
The fourth-generation Sprinter is still some way from its full production reveal, but Mercedes is gradually providing more clues about what businesses can expect from its next-generation large van.
Rather unusually, the latest preview comes in the form of a life-sized stone sculpture.
Mercedes first unveiled its so-called ‘Boulder’ concept in 2025, using the unusual design exercise to hint at the shape of the new Sprinter while keeping much of the finished vehicle hidden. The sculpture has now been further developed, exposing additional details of the van’s exterior design.

A New Look For The Mercedes Sprinter
The latest version of the sculpture gives us a much clearer impression of the fourth-generation Sprinter’s front end.
One of the most obvious changes is the grille, which adopts a taller and more upright design than the unit currently fitted to the existing Sprinter.
This brings the new van visually closer to Mercedes-Benz’s latest passenger and commercial vehicle design language, while the large three-pointed Mercedes star remains prominently positioned at the front.
The bonnet has also been reshaped with smoother surfacing. Mercedes says the revised design has been developed with airflow in mind, helping to improve the aerodynamic performance of the new van.

Two Platforms For The Next-Generation Sprinter

Electric versions will use Mercedes-Benz’s VAN.EA architecture, while combustion-engined models will be based on the VAN.CA platform.
The VAN.EA architecture is also being used for Mercedes’ next-generation electric people carriers, although the company says the platform has been engineered to allow the Sprinter to retain its own distinct commercial vehicle characteristics.

During testing, the VLE reportedly travelled 683 miles while making two 15-minute charging stops, highlighting the potential for rapid charging and improved long-distance usability.
Mercedes has indicated that vehicles based on the platform could potentially achieve around 300 miles of range, although it remains to be seen how that figure will translate to the larger and heavier Sprinter.
The current electric Sprinter already offers a claimed range of up to 279 miles when equipped with its 113kWh battery, meaning the next-generation model could potentially provide a useful improvement.
