Mitsubishi has officially reopened order books for the all-new L200, marking the Japanese manufacturer’s return to the UK pick-up market after a six-year absence.
The launch represents the first major step in Mitsubishi’s wider UK revival strategy, following the brand’s decision to halt the development of new European models and withdraw from the British new car market in 2020. While Mitsubishi continued to support existing customers through its dealer network and after-sales operations, the company effectively disappeared from UK new vehicle sales.
Now, the manufacturer is preparing a fresh assault on the market, with the seventh-generation L200 leading the charge. The pick-up will be followed by the arrival of a new Outlander SUV, signalling the beginning of a broader product offensive aimed at re-establishing Mitsubishi’s presence in Britain.
The latest L200 arrives as one of the most important vehicles in Mitsubishi’s recent history and will be offered exclusively in Double Cab form. Customers can choose between a four-seat passenger model and a purpose-built two-seat Commercial variant developed specifically for business users.
Prices start from £36,295 for the passenger version, while Commercial models begin at £37,495.
Bigger, Stronger and More Refined
Designed to compete directly with established rivals, including the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, Isuzu D-Max, Volkswagen Amarok, and KGM Musso, the new L200 has undergone a comprehensive redesign.
The latest model is wider, longer and taller than its predecessor and is built on an all-new high-tensile steel ladder-frame chassis. Mitsubishi says the new platform delivers a 40 per cent improvement in torsional rigidity, helping to enhance durability, towing performance and overall refinement.
A redesigned suspension system has also been introduced, with engineers focusing on improving both load-carrying capability and ride comfort. The result is a pick-up that promises greater stability when fully loaded while delivering a more composed and comfortable driving experience on the road.
For commercial operators and private buyers alike, the improvements should help position the L200 among the most refined vehicles in its segment.
Built for Work
Practicality remains a core strength of the new L200.
The load bed measures 1,555mm in length, 1,545mm in width and 526mm in depth, providing enough space to accommodate a standard 1,200mm x 800mm Euro pallet. Integrated tie-down points allow cargo to be secured safely, making the vehicle suitable for a wide range of commercial applications.
Mitsubishi expects the L200 to appeal strongly to farmers, tradespeople, construction professionals and fleet operators looking for a vehicle capable of handling demanding workloads without compromising comfort or technology.
All versions are capable of carrying payloads exceeding 1,000kg and can tow up to 3.5 tonnes, placing the L200 among the leading contenders in the highly competitive pick-up segment.
Dedicated Commercial Model
One of the most distinctive additions to the range is the purpose-built Commercial variant.
Rather than simply removing the rear seats, Mitsubishi has completely re-engineered the vehicle as a permanent two-seater. The rear passenger compartment has been replaced with a concealed internal load area, creating additional secure storage while ensuring compliance with UK commercial vehicle legislation.
The conversion enables businesses to take advantage of commercial vehicle taxation rules, including eligibility for 100 per cent plant and machinery allowances and a fixed Benefit-in-Kind rate.
For many operators, these tax advantages could prove just as attractive as the vehicle’s towing and payload capabilities.
New Bi-Turbo Diesel Powertrain
Every L200 is powered by a 2.4-litre bi-turbo diesel engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive as standard.
The updated powertrain produces 204PS and 470Nm of torque, representing a notable increase over the previous generation model. Performance figures include a 0-62mph time of 12.6 seconds and a top speed of 111mph.
While outright performance is unlikely to be a priority for most buyers, the additional torque should prove beneficial when towing heavy trailers, transporting equipment or tackling challenging off-road conditions.
The inclusion of four-wheel drive across the entire range ensures every version retains the rugged capability that has long been associated with the L200 nameplate.
Two Trim Levels Available
Customers can choose between two trim grades: Titan and Barbarian.
The entry-level Titan comes generously equipped, featuring 17-inch alloy wheels, cloth upholstery, air conditioning, keyless entry, a nine-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 360-degree camera system.
Stepping up to the Barbarian introduces a more premium feel, with 18-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, heated front seats, climate control and LED headlights among the additional equipment.
The higher-spec model is expected to appeal to buyers who use their pick-up as both a working vehicle and family transport, reflecting the growing trend towards lifestyle-focused double-cab pick-ups.
Advanced Off-Road Technology
The Barbarian trim also benefits from Mitsubishi’s advanced Super Select 4WD-II system.
The technology allows drivers to choose from multiple drive modes depending on terrain and conditions, helping maximise traction across mud, gravel, sand and rocky surfaces.
Unlike many conventional part-time four-wheel-drive systems, Super Select enables four-wheel drive to be engaged on high-grip road surfaces. This provides additional stability and confidence during wet weather or when towing, giving the L200 a unique advantage in certain driving situations.
The system has been a defining feature of previous generations and remains one of Mitsubishi’s strongest selling points among off-road enthusiasts.
Safety and Connectivity Upgrades
Technology has taken a significant step forward compared with the outgoing model.
At the centre of the cabin is a new nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system, while a 360-degree camera system comes as standard to improve visibility when manoeuvring in confined spaces or connecting trailers.
Driver assistance technology has also been enhanced, with adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance and blind-spot monitoring fitted as standard across the range.
The inclusion of these systems reflects changing customer expectations and helps bring the L200 into line with modern SUVs and premium commercial vehicles.
Entering a Highly Competitive Market
The return of the L200 comes at a fascinating time for the UK pick-up sector.
While increasing emissions regulations and changes to taxation rules have created challenges for manufacturers, demand remains strong among agricultural businesses, tradespeople and fleet operators who require vehicles capable of combining practicality, towing ability and off-road performance.
The Ford Ranger currently dominates the segment and has established itself as the benchmark for technology and refinement. The Toyota Hilux continues to attract buyers with its reputation for durability and reliability, while the Isuzu D-Max remains a popular choice among commercial users thanks to its value-for-money proposition.
Against this backdrop, Mitsubishi faces a significant challenge. However, the L200 enters the market with strong brand recognition, proven capability and a loyal customer base built over decades of success in the UK.
Five-Year Warranty Included
To further strengthen its appeal, Mitsubishi is backing the new L200 with a comprehensive ownership package.
Every model is covered by a five-year manufacturer warranty and five years of pan-European roadside assistance, providing additional peace of mind for both private and commercial customers.
Commercial pricing starts at £37,495 for the Titan and rises to £41,195 for the range-topping Barbarian. Passenger models begin at £36,295 and increase to £39,995 for the flagship Barbarian version.
A New Chapter for Mitsubishi
The return of the L200 represents far more than the launch of a new pick-up.
It signals Mitsubishi’s renewed commitment to the UK market and provides the first glimpse of the manufacturer’s future plans following several years of uncertainty.
With a stronger platform, upgraded technology, improved refinement and proven commercial credentials, the latest L200 arrives as one of the most capable and technologically advanced versions ever produced.
Whether it can challenge the dominance of the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux remains to be seen, but its arrival will undoubtedly be welcomed by long-standing Mitsubishi customers and businesses seeking a dependable new workhorse.
For Mitsubishi, the L200 is not simply a new model. It is the vehicle tasked with leading the brand’s long-awaited return to Britain.
