What is a tail lift?
A tail lift is a mechanical device permanently installed on the rear of a work truck, van, or lorry, and is designed to facilitate the materials handling of goods from ground level or a loading dock to the level of the vehicle bed or vice versa.
Lifts work by a set of rams attached to the chassis of the vehicle. These rams are on hinges, allowing them to change the angle as they expand or contract. By using the rams in sequence, the working platform can either be tilted or raised and lowered. The majority of tail lifts are hydraulic or pneumatic in operation, although they can be mechanical, and are controlled by an operator using an electric relay switch.
Tail lifts are available for many sizes of vehicles, from standard vans to articulated lorries, and standard models can lift anywhere up to 2500kg.
Tail lifts make it much easier to safely load and unload and are synonymous with cost efficiency, flexibility and a high level of operating comfort for users.
They are the first choice for many transport companies such as house removal companies, couriers, heavy and bulky goods delivery companies, fleet owners and rental companies.
