Practical Vehicle Information

Overview

Thank you for ordering your new vehicle using the services of Commercial Vehicle Contracts.

We understand that vehicles are extremely complex pieces of equipment. In order to be able to benefit fully from the features of your vehicle, we recommend that any operator and driver of the vehicle spends time reading the manufacturer handbook that is supplied with the vehicle for specific function operations and running best practises.

This document will provide you with some useful information to keep your vehicle running as well as the manufacturer intended.

Vehicle And Warranty

  • Your new vehicle is a UK specification model that has been supplied by either a manufacturer owned UK retailer or UK franchised retailer of the vehicle manufacturer
  • The vehicle is supplied with a full UK manufacturer warranty that begins for a specified time and / or mileage limit on the day of first registration of the vehicle
  • The warranty is redeemable at any manufacturer owned UK retailer or UK franchised retailer of the vehicle manufacturer
  • Please consult the manufacturer warranty handbook supplied with your vehicle for inclusions and exclusions of the policy

Customers Who Are Responsible For The Costs Of Maintaining Their Vehicle

  • If the finance agreement that you have incepted for your vehicle does not include an element for maintenance provision, then you are responsible for organising any work required and meeting the costs of maintaining the vehicle whilst it is in your possession
  • Maintaining the vehicle includes servicing it in line with the manufacturer servicing schedule (please consult the service handbook supplied with the vehicle); any parts required at any time (and not included by the manufacturer warranty) to keep the vehicle in a roadworthy state; ensuring the vehicle complies with MOT requirements and appropriate testing

Customers Who Have A Maintenance Element Within The Finance Agreement For Their Vehicle

  • If the finance agreement that you have incepted for your vehicle does include an element for maintenance provision, then you are responsible for organising any work required (although certain funders / maintenance providers will carry this out for you as part of their service level – please speak to your supplier for details) and the maintenance supplier will meet the costs of maintaining the vehicle whilst it is in your possession unless the work required is as a result of damage to the vehicle that is not covered by the policy

Diesel Particulate Filer (DPF)

  • Many cars and vans are fitted with a DPF to help control levels of harmful emissions
  • The DPF regeneration programme for each vehicle can be different and as such it is important that you read and understand how to undertake this as required
  • Details of DPF regeneration can be found in the manufacturer handbook supplied with your vehicle
  • We have produced an overview guide to DPF. Please ask us for a copy but note that this does not replace the requirements stipulated by the vehicle manufacturer

Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF)

  • Many cars and vans require a fuel additive (DEF) to assist in reducing levels of harmful emissions
  • DEF is a consumable and as such you are responsible for the costs of buying the product and for administering it to your vehicle
  • DEF usage will be proportionate to diesel usage. Please consult your manufacturer handbook for details
  • It is important that you understand when you need to apply DEF to the vehicle and in which receptacle it should be applied. Please consult your manufacturer handbook for details
  • We have produced an overview guide to DEF. Please ask us for a copy but note that this does not replace the requirements stipulated by the vehicle manufacturer

Vehicles Fitted With After Market Accessories, Conversions And Functioning Vehicle Body Parts

  • If your vehicle is fitted with an accessory supplied by the vehicle retailer (such as a paint protection product) then the vehicle warranty and / or maintenance element of the finance agreement does not cover this accessory. It will be subject to its own manufacturer warranty and you are responsible for the cost of maintaining or replacing it if required
  • If your vehicle is fitted with a conversion by a type approved vehicle convertor (such as a Luton body fitted to an LCV chassis cab) then the vehicle warranty and / or maintenance element of the finance agreement will not cover the conversion. This will be subject to its own manufacturer warranty and you are responsible for the cost and organisation of maintaining and servicing the conversion as required. You are also responsible for organising and any cost associated with regulatory inspection of the conversion as required (for example under Lifting Operations And Lifting Equipment Regulations)
  • If your vehicle is fitted with a functioning body part by a type approved specialist (such as a tail lift fitted to an LCV chassis cab with Luton conversion) then the vehicle warranty and / or maintenance element of the finance agreement will not cover the functioning body part. This will be subject to its own manufacturer warranty and you are responsible for the cost and organisation of maintaining and servicing the functioning body part as required. You are also responsible for organising and any cost associated with regulatory inspection of the conversion as required (for example under Lifting Operations And Lifting Equipment Regulations)

Tyre Replacement

  • The minimum tyre tread depth for any on-highway vehicle in the UK is 1.6mm
  • You are responsible for monitoring the tread depth of the tyres on your vehicle and ensuring that tyre pressures are adjusted where required to ensure the safe usage of the vehicle
  • If your finance agreement has a maintenance element, then this may include provision for tyres to be replaced at the funders expense throughout the life of the finance agreement on a fair wear and tear basis
  • You will meet the cost of any tyres that need to be replaced if you are responsible for maintaining the vehicle throughout the life of the finance agreement
