Last month, Shanghai wowed the world with its 2021 motor show which was the first time China has hosted a motor show since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic. For all those who attended, eight halls filled with some of the biggest car manufacturers in the world as well as some more unknown players awaited them.
Mercedes
Starting off, we will take a look at Mercedes’ all-electric version of the S-Class. The Mercedes EQS, much like its diesel brother, is being touted as a launchpad for brand new technologies - including a 55.5-inch Hyperscreen infotainment system and a Level 3 autonomous driver assistance tech.

If you’re looking for more of a comfortable ride, then perhaps the EQB will be right for you. This small electric SUV, which is based on the GLB model, is sharing duties at the end of the EQ line-up as the GLA. This family-friendly, four-wheel driven beast sports up to seven seats and the same autonomous driver assistance tech as the EQS.

Audi
Now moving over to Audi’s offering. We see the brand new all-electric A6 e-tron concept and the new Q4 e-tron, as well as the exclusive China-only Audi A7L.
The A7L features a longer wheelbase than the standard A7, it changes its aesthetics to a more traditional saloon look.

The A6 e-tron concept is a preview of an all-electric version of the regular A6 that is based on Audi’s new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture which is also slated to release in 2023.
Audi has said that the battery feeds two electric motors, delivering a four-wheel drive and boasting an output of 469bhp and 800Nm of torque.
This highly-anticipated addition to an already exclusive family of vehicles can charge from 5 to 80 per cent in just 25 minutes. This is achieved by the new PPE platform which has been built with an 800-volt architecture, which means that the A6 e-tron offers a rapid charge capability of up to 270kW.

Ora Punk Cat
Chinese automaker Great Wall Motors revealed the Ora Punk Cat, an electric, four-door VW Beetle inspired car.
With its round headlights and striking bonnet, it is unsurprising that VW has noticed how close to its creation this is getting with a spokesperson stating “We check this matter with regard to any violations of utility model or design rights of Volkswagen AG and reserve the right to take any necessary legal steps”. Nevertheless, we think this Eastern Beetle looks fantastic.
The specification for this car wasn’t revealed at the show, however, it appears to be built on a similar frame as the Ora Haomao, which has a range of 250 to 310 miles and was priced from 103,900 to 143,900 yuan (£11,556 to £16,006). Great Wall says the Ora Punk Cat will be available by the end of the year.
